Burnside Star Work

Today Destiny received a certificate in our whole school assembly.

Destiny has been working hard to show compassion and has been helping out the new children in the Piwakawaka Team.

Well done Destiny!

Welcome Heather!

Last term Heather started with us in the Piwakawaka Team. Today we welcomed her in our whole school assembly.

Welcome to Burnside Heather!

We are so excited to have you in our team!

Hui

This week in hui we sang one of our old favourites - two little dicky birds.
Today Ahi, Collin, Mason and Alexia were our leaders! They did a fantastic job in leading the whole team in our rhyme!
Check out their awesome performance!

ANZAC Day

We have been learning a little bit about the reason ANZAC day is special to New Zealand and Australia.  We have made poppies, read a brilliant big book called Dawn Service and have been using some resources on the internet to dress a soldier ready for battle 100 years ago.  You can click here to use this at home also.  We talked about why we thought the soldiers needed these things on their uniform and why they wore a uniform.  This was a great discussion with some very thoughtful, considered answers.
We have also been looking at some photos and ribbons that Miss Browne has from her granddad who was in the First World War.  We have then made our own medals like the brave soldiers received.

Drawing

At the end of last term we were learning how to draw different types of lines.  We had to learn how to hold a pencil in a funny way so that it would make fat, fuzzy lines.  Come in and check out our fantastic drawings in the Red and Yellow rooms.

Swimming

We had a fantastic last week at swimming. We got to wear life jackets and swim in the deep pool. We also got to have a turn in a boat.
We enjoyed learning about how to stay safe in the water. We learned that you can test how fast a river is moving by throwing leaves in the water and watching how fast they move.
Miss Browne and Miss Smits are very proud of you all for the confidence and excellence you showed when getting into the water!

Handwriting superstars

Congratulations to Dexter, Mason, Elizabeth, Collin and Isabel from the Yellow Room for being our handwriting superstars this week.

We have been very impressed by the excellent effort you have all been putting into your work!

Burnside Star Work

On Thursday we celebrate the children in our team who have been showing our school values.

They get a sticker for the value they have been showing to go on their dragonfly certificate.

This week week we celebrated the work of Pagen, Isabel and Reina. They have all been showing excellence in their learning this week.

Pagen for showing excellence in her reading and learning her alphabet sounds.

Reina for showing excellence in oral language and sharing her ideas.

Isabel for showing excellence in her handwriting and her writing.
