Bottle top art - simple machines

We are busy using all the lids that we collected to make some art works to decorate our school.  We've been learning about simple machines and have been using a screw driver to attach the lids to the wood.  It took a lot of effort and time so now we are using a drill.  It is a lot of fun and makes it much faster to put the screws through the plastic and into the wood.
Can you guess what we are making with the lids?

Subitizing

In Numeracy time we complete knowledge activities as well as developing our strategies for solving addition and subtraction problems.  We have been focusing this term on subitizing in our knowledge development.  This is where we learn patterns of dots and how to recognise how many dots there are quickly.  This helps us to be able to learn how to add groups together and to recognise patterns that numbers make.  Here we are working in pairs against another pair to play snap.  There is a lot of counting still happening with the larger number of dots but we are getting quicker and it is great to have a buddy to check our counting!

Discovery Time

Look at all the different things we have to choose from at Discovery Time.  We are enjoying thinking of our own creative ideas to make.

Great learners!

How many piwakawaka's can you fit around one computer?  It was so lovely to watch this bunch of learners before school helping each other to find the numbers.  Great cooperation, support and encouragement!

Maths Must Do and Can Do activities

We have been practising how to work with our buddies, stay at our activities and to focus on what we are doing during our must do/can do time.  Here are some photos of people that know exactly what to do and can work well with their partner.  What great role models you are, especially when you use your words and talk to your partner about your activity or where you are going to next.
