Bucket Filling

A few weeks ago we had our first bucket to be filled right up to the top!

Hayley worked hard to earn warm fuzzies by being a bucket filler not a bucket dipper.

Well done Hayley. The Piwakawaka Team is very proud of you!

Te Waka o Matariki

Our newest Burnside Stars are showing just how independent they can be with their learning.  Today they all buddied up by themselves and followed our Must Do and Can Do board brilliantly and with focus.  You are awesome Burnside Stars already!

Hui

Every morning we start our day with a Hui.  A Hui is a meeting where our whole team starts the day in the Red Room together.  We sing some nursery rhymes and do different activities to have a positive start to our day.
This morning we learnt some clapping patterns to go with our rhyme this week, Pat-a-cake, Pat-a-cake.

On a Thursday we also discuss those people who have been 'caught' showing our values.  Today we celebrated Destiny who received the sticker for 'Compassion' and Satriani who received the sticker for 'Integrity".  We are very proud of both of these girls who show the Burnside Values.
This is the sticker we use to represent 'Compassion' because Pukeko's are very good at looking after their nests and their babies.

This is the sticker we use to represent 'Integrity' because the Four Winds that blow over Christchurch can't be seen but they can be felt.  If you are showing Integrity you know the right thing to do even when there is nobody watching.

Te Waka o Matariki

Today during our Te Waka o Matariki time we worked with a buddy to see if we could find tricky pictures inside an even bigger tricky picture.  We had to be detectives!
We also learnt to use our values of respect.  When we work with a buddy we have to use our manners, help each other to focus to complete the task and to finish the task to the best we can do.
Miss Browne was very proud of all the manners and compliments she heard.  "You can have the pen now", "Well done!  You found it!", "Remember to tick it off at the top", and "Thanks!" were all great things that buddies said to each other this morning.
We still need to work on using our words instead of pointing to the answers so that we are helping our buddies, not telling them or doing the activity for them.

Riley and Tyson were great buddies together.  They stuck at their 'Must Do' activity and worked really well together.  We love how proud they look!  Ka pai boys!

Canterbury Museum, Riccarton House and Dean's Bush

Here are some of our photos from our trip on Friday.  What a great day we had.  There was so much to look at and we made some great connections to our learning from earlier on this week.  We look forward to using all that we saw to help us with the next steps in our Investigation "Big Things come from Small Beginnings".

Look carefully in these two pictures.  Can you see the Piwakawaka?
