Our first butterfly

Today our very first butterfly hatched out of its chrysalis just before lunch time.  We left it to pump its wings and stretch out.  After handwriting we passed it around so everyone could hold it.  Some of us were lucky enough to have it 'pee' on us!
We used the computer to work out if it was a boy butterfly or a girl butterfly.  We found out that the butterflies with the black spots on its hind wing were boys.  We looked very hard at our butterfly but there were no black spots so we had a girl!
Some of us were a little worried that the butterfly might hurt us but it only tickled with its feet while it was holding onto our fingers.  It was lovely to hear lots of encouraging words to our friends to have try if they were a little worried.  We were very proud of everyone for having a go!
I wonder how many more butterflies we will have hatch?
We took it out to the butterfly garden to let it go.  We hope it comes back to lay some eggs on our swan plants next year.

El Gregoe

El Gregoe visited Burnside Primary School this week.  He showed us some amazing birds, some great magic tricks and even taught us about how to be a Burnside Shining Star.

He made a feather duster turn into an umbrella.
He made birds appear from flat dishes.
This naughty bird kept on going upside down when El Gregoe wasn't looking.  He wasn't showing Integrity.

El Gregoe even made birds appear from empty boxes.

 This is a Macaw.
Some Burnside children were able to help El Gregoe with his magic tricks.
He pulled a giant ladder from a suitcase!
He thought he would try and trick us with a bird that wasn't real!  But we couldn't be fooled!

Then we saw the real bird in the box that was empty just seconds before!

Some more children were able to help El Gregoe.
This magic trick taught us that words have power and we need to be careful how we speak to others.
He found the words in his big book which he showed us was empty!  Where did he pull them out of?

Then there was a big colourful scarf that came out of the book as well!
We loved El Gregoe's Bee.  He taught us about how we can all have a sting and that we need to show RESPECT.  The bee even sang to us!

It was super funny!  We really enjoyed this part.

Next, El Gregoe made lots of bottles and glasses from out of two tubes.  We just couldn't figure out where they kept on coming from!

Some more children were able to help El Gregoe.  He made these separate scarves become one to show that at Burnside Primary School we look after everyone and include everyone in our games.

Some more children helped El Gregoe.  This was really funny because the lips moved all by themselves and made it look like the person helping El Gregoe was talking when he wasn't.  El Gregoe even made him look like he was singing!
El Gregoe made him a balloon dog for helping.
 And it could do tricks!

Then there was another helper.  El Gregoe used a machine to see if this person was honest.
Then it was time for El Gregoe's big finale.  He hoped inside this machine and they let the big piece of metal fall down.  We thought it was going to hurt El Gregoe!

But it really was safe for him!
These are all the words that El Gregoe taught us.  We think that they match to our school values and dispositions.

Thanks for coming to visit us El Gregoe.  We had a great afternoon watching how clever you are and trying to work out your magic tricks.
