Investigations - Waka

Today at Investigations we looked carefully at a picture of some Maori people and their waka (boats).  It was a bit tricky to work out what we could see because we revealed only part of the picture at a time.  This made us really focus on what we were looking at and we noticed a lot more detail.
We made our own waka after looking at the picture.  Some of us thought about how to make the parts of the waka that go up at the ends.  We tried to paddle a pretend waka as well.  We thought that the Maori people in the waka must have had big muscles to travel by waka all the way to New Zealand and around New Zealand.
Tomorrow we are going to have waka races in the water tray and see if our foil waka stay floating.
